Andēz is an architectural composition of outdoor furniture pieces meant to be set in a natural open public space. Its aim is to create a close to human mountain range experience; their forms draw inspiration from the topographic maps of the Andes, a major mountain system that runs through the pacific coast of South America. Users can interact with the mountain range by combining and separating the pieces depending on what they want to use these as; with the variation of size, their use can vary from benches to tables to bigger climbing mountain ladders to sit on.

Modularity

For me and my design, modularity means connection and disconnection. A system of components that are made up of relatively independent parts which can be combined; it is what allows interaction of object to object, human to human and human to object within a designated space

Public Space

Public outdoor spaces are important for city civilians' mental health and well being. There are hundreds of spaces for the public in New York City. However the standard seating and spacial design lacks modernization and accessibility. We have found in our research there are many opportunities to improve public outdoor seating to accommodate millions of urban citizens.
